About us

The Bridgend and District Local History Society was established in 1952, The Glamorgan Local History Society had been founded in 1949 and expressed the wish that societies with a more local focus should be set up. The Bridgend members of that society rose to the challenge . The inaugural meeting was on Wednesday March 5th 1952 at the Civic Restaurant in Bridgend where around 100 interested persons attended. A committee was formed and the society met in Bridgend Technical College, Cowbridge Road on every third Wednesday of the month from October to March at 6.45pm.

In later years the society met in Heolgam school and in its later incarnation as Brynteg Lower School, also moving forward in the month from the third to the second Wednesday.

In 2017 we made the move to Carnegie House where we take full advantage of its historical significance, sympathetic ambience and central location.

Do join us on the second Wednesday of the Month between September and April at Carnegie House – you will be very welcome!
